CArbon Integrity
High-integrity carbon through biodiverse reforestation
Our Carbon Approach
At Roots, we advance climate mitigation through biodiverse reforestation. Our approach combines ecological science, carbon accounting, and long-term stewardship to deliver high-integrity carbon sequestration that restores ecosystems—not just carbon totals.
Each reforestation project is designed for permanence. Protected by conservation easements and backed by long-term stewardship commitments, each site is monitored, adapted, and managed over time to deliver real, lasting impact. This means stronger forests, more resilient landscapes, and lasting climate benefits.
PROJECT FRAMEWORK
Roots implements projects through a structured four-year cycle that includes site acquisition, ecological assessments, restoration implementation, and handover to long-term stewards. After this initial phase, we remain actively involved—managing the land and working with partners to ensure perpetual protection and adaptive management.

What Sets Our Projects Apart
-
We Design with Impact
Roots focuses on biodiversity and conservation hotspots, using climate-adaptive reforestation strategies to optimize carbon sequestration. Projects restore soil health, plant native species, and eliminate invasive vegetation to help ecosystems recover.
-
We Protect and Monitor
All sites are protected through permanent conservation easements and long-term stewardship. We use robust monitoring systems to track carbon storage and biodiversity outcomes in collaboration with public and private partners.
-
We Engage Communities
Community engagement is built into every project, creating local jobs and supporting conservation efforts. We work closely with stakeholders to ensure projects deliver ecological and socio-economic value.
Every reforestation project is designed to deliver measurable, high-integrity carbon outcomes.

Integrity Safeguards
Scientific Rigor in
Design & Monitoring
Each project starts with ecological and silvicultural baselines for soil, hydrology, and biodiversity. Carbon sampling is calibrated with remote sensing, and long-term monitoring tracks canopy growth, species richness, and habitat quality. Methodologies and results are published transparently.
Ecological Integrity & Biodiversity
Roots designs each site with native, site-appropriate species—never monocultures—while restoring natural soil and water dynamics. Diverse forest layers (trees, shrubs, herbaceous plants) support long-term resilience, with ongoing biodiversity surveys tracking habitat recovery.
Resilience
& Adaptive Management
Roots uses an adaptive project design process, integrating new scientific insights and climate projections to refine planting strategies. Projects are planned at the landscape and watershed scale to reduce carbon leakage and increase broader ecological benefits.
Permanence & Long-Term Stewardship
All projects are protected through conservation easements, secured in partnership with agencies like USDA and NRCS. Each site is governed by a stewardship agreement, supported by dedicated funding, and is equipped with risk plans in place for fire, pests, and extreme weather events.
Greenwashing
Prevention
Roots only undertakes projects where reforestation would not occur without intervention, ensuring true additionality. Outcomes are never sold as carbon offsets, reducing the risk of double-counting, and all carbon and non-carbon benefits are communicated with full transparency.

Partner with roots
By 2030, Roots will restore 7,000 acres, plant 3 million native trees, and sequester 1.2 million metric tons of carbon. Ready to help scale high-integrity, nature-based climate solutions? Let’s talk.
